Steeped in 19th-century character, this substantial Victorian canteen box is crafted from rich, flame-figured mahogany with classical ogee-moulded edges and a blank inset brass shield cartouche to the lid. The front features a matching shield-shaped brass keyhole escutcheon.

Inside, the box retains its deep royal blue baize lining alongside remaining fitted racks once made to house fine flatware.

An Ideal Repurposing & Display Piece:

While perfect as a traditional keepsake or memory chest, this piece has incredible potential for a creative studio display or bespoke storage. With its generous width and solid timber depth, it is primed for upcycling:

Mount small antique brass hooks inside the lid or along the back to turn it into an open wall-mounted or desktop hanging necklace display.

Remove or reconfigure the felted blocks to create a velvet-lined multi-compartment jewellery valet or curiosity showcase.

A heavy, authentic piece of British history with genuine visual warmth and endless display possibilities.
